PHC Jails Lawyer for Six Months Over Remarks Against Woman Judge

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has sentenced a lawyer to six months in prison and fined him Rs100,000 for contempt of court after he used derogatory language against a woman judge in a Swat courtroom.

The court issued a short order detailing the decision.

According to the ruling, complaints against Swat-based lawyer Asadullah reached the registrar of the high court. The complaint was filed by Civil Judge Fozia Naseem.

The high court converted the complaint into a contempt of court petition and initiated formal proceedings. It issued a notice to the lawyer and began hearings under the Contempt of Court Ordinance, 2004.

During the proceedings, the court found the allegations against the lawyer proven. The bench then handed down the sentence under the relevant contempt law.
