Pakistan’s Role in Ceasefire Talks Earns Full UN Support

UN Chief urges renewed dialogue, says No military solution to Middle East conflict

UNITED NATIONS :  United Nations UN  Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement to extend a ceasefire, calling it a crucial step toward reducing tensions and opening a rare diplomatic window between Iran and the United States.

In a series of statements issued through his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, Guterres expressed full support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts and urged all parties to respect the ceasefire and refrain from provocations.

“This is an important step towards reducing tensions and provides a significant opportunity for diplomacy and confidence-building between Iran and the United States,” Dujarric said, summarizing the Secretary-General’s position.

Guterres said the development creates a long-awaited opening for dialogue, appealing to all sides to build on the progress and avoid any violations of the truce. His office called on all parties to play a “positive and constructive role” in the upcoming negotiations.

The Secretary-General also specifically commended Pakistan for facilitating the talks, expressing hope that Islamabad’s efforts would help create conditions conducive to a comprehensive and lasting solution.

“Guterres fully supports Pakistan’s mediation efforts and hopes that the talks will pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting solution,” Dujarric added.

The UN chief’s remarks come as diplomatic momentum builds following Trump’s surprise announcement, which observers say could lead to the first substantive U.S.-Iran negotiatio
