LAHORE: Pakistan has decided to serve a formal notice to India over the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, sources confirmed.
Officials in the Indus Water Commission said legal and constitutional consultations are complete. The response follows India’s recent announcement to suspend the treaty.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Water Resources, and the Ministry of Law have finished the initial groundwork. A formal diplomatic notice will be sent to India in the coming days.
Pakistan will demand clear justifications for India’s unilateral move. Officials view the suspension as a violation of international obligations.
Sources said Pakistan also plans to raise the issue at global forums. The goal is to expose what it calls India’s water aggression and strengthen its own legal case.
“This move aims to give Pakistan legal and moral ground,” a source said. “We want to present India’s actions clearly to the world.”
Officials in the Indus Commission believe Pakistan has legal precedence. They hope international pressure will force India to reconsider.
