Pakistan to Host US-Iran Peace Deal Signing in Geneva: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that the world has crossed a historic milestone for peace and that a “sun of peace” has risen after a long and dark night of war.

Addressing the National Assembly, he said the United States and Iran had agreed to an immediate and permanent end to all military operations on all fronts. He called it a major breakthrough for global peace and stability.

Sharif announced that the formal signing ceremony of the peace agreement would take place on June 19 in Geneva. He said Pakistan would host the event.

He said the agreement marked a victory for peace, diplomacy, and dialogue, not just for the two countries involved.

The prime minister congratulated the people of Pakistan and thanked lawmakers across party lines for their support.

He also acknowledged political leaders including PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for their cooperation.

Sharif congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. He expressed hope that the deal would open a new era of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.

He said Pakistan could not forget the role of friendly countries and the international community in supporting the process.

He thanked Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said their leadership played a key role in advancing peace efforts.

He also appreciated support from the United Kingdom, the European Union, and other partner countries.

Sharif said no speech would be complete without acknowledging Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He said the military chief worked day and night to help cool tensions and advance peace efforts in extremely difficult conditions.

He said Munir showed resolve and persistence even when negotiations appeared to stall.

The prime minister said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts helped reduce tensions at the global level. He said sustained engagement and strategic efforts eventually paved the way for the ceasefire and peace agreement.

He praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the diplomatic team, and all relevant institutions.

Sharif said Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership worked together in the national interest and for global peace.

He said history would remember Pakistan’s role in helping prevent a major conflict.

He added that Allah had enabled Pakistan’s sincere efforts to succeed and raised the country’s global standing.

He congratulated the people of all provinces, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. He said the achievement belonged to the entire nation and showed Pakistan as a strong supporter of peace, stability, and dialogue.
