RIYADH: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have signed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and hosted formal talks in the presence of both countries’ delegations.
Prime Minister Sharif conveyed greetings and good wishes to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. The two leaders reviewed the historic and strategic partnership between their nations and discussed issues of mutual interest.
The agreement, signed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, reflects nearly eight decades of partnership, brotherhood, and Islamic solidarity between the two countries. It aims to enhance defence cooperation and reinforce joint defence against any aggression. The pact declares that any attack on one country will be considered an attack on both.
The premier expressed deep gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended by the Saudi leadership. He wished continued progress, prosperity, and well-being for King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the people of Saudi Arabia.
The Crown Prince reciprocated with best wishes for Shehbaz Sharif’s health and for the progress and prosperity of the Pakistani people.
Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia earlier on the Crown Prince’s invitation, accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and federal ministers. Saudi fighter jets escorted the prime minister’s aircraft as it entered the kingdom’s airspace.

On his arrival in Riyadh, Shehbaz Sharif received a ceremonial welcome that included a 21-gun salute and the display of Pakistan’s national flag across the city.
