ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to take their economic and agricultural partnership to a new level following enhanced cooperation in the defence sector.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a meeting with Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, stressed the need to expand cooperation in technology, research, efficient water management and bilateral trade in agricultural products.
During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, the two sides discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in agriculture, water resources, food security and other economic sectors.
Welcoming the Saudi minister and his delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoyed deep-rooted and longstanding brotherly relations.
He also conveyed his best wishes for Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The prime minister noted that the recently concluded Makkah Joint Defence Agreement among Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan had brought the three countries closer while conveying a message of unity and peace in the region.
Moreover, Shehbaz said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were strategic partners and should now focus particularly on expanding economic and agricultural cooperation. He stressed that stronger collaboration in these sectors would help transform their longstanding brotherly ties into a robust trade and investment partnership, benefiting both countries.
Meanwhile, the prime minister expressed satisfaction over the positive progress in bilateral trade in agricultural products, particularly Pakistan’s exports of agricultural commodities to Saudi Arabia.

In addition, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in modern technology, research and development, and the efficient utilisation of water resources to increase agricultural productivity in Pakistan.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz announced that a delegation of Pakistani agricultural experts would soon visit Saudi Arabia. During their visit to Riyadh, the delegation would hold further discussions on opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, water resources and other relevant sectors.
The visit, he said, would help both countries fully realise the potential of their agricultural partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration.
In response, Saudi Minister Abdulrahman Al-Fadley thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for the warm welcome and hospitality. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Pakistan in the fields of agriculture, water resources and food security.
