ISLAMABAD: Security sources have clarified that while proposals are being finalized to operate Balochistan’s Pasni Port on a commercial basis, the decision is yet to be officially approved.
The sources emphasized that the port will play a vital role in exporting Pakistan’s minerals to partner countries, but under no circumstances will its security be handed over to any foreign nation.
They stated that ensuring national security is solely Pakistan’s responsibility and will remain under the command of Pakistani forces.
According to security officials, Pakistan welcomes cooperation with all countries but will guarantee its own security independently.
They noted that although China is engaged in major development projects across Pakistan, including Gwadar Port, the security of all such ventures rests exclusively with Pakistani forces.
The same policy will apply to future mineral-sharing and development partnerships, where only Pakistan will oversee all security matters.
Officials further stated that Pakistan will not rely on any external power for protection, as it is against the country’s fundamental principles to outsource national security.
Responsible sources added that merely developing one or two ports will not fully address Pakistan’s maritime potential.
Being located on one of the world’s most strategic sea routes, Pakistan must develop additional ports to maximize its economic advantages.
The proposals for running Pasni Port commercially are ready, and in the coming days, further investment suggestions related to mining and tourism are expected.
The sources added that Pakistan cannot utilize its resources in isolation and must work in partnership with others — but always with its own national interests as the top priority.
Whether it is Pasni or Reko Diq, the ultimate focus will remain on the benefit of the Pakistani people.

They noted that while the last century was defined by oil and gas, the present era belongs to minerals and mining — and it is time for Pakistan to fully capitalize on this growing global opportunity.
