ISLAMABAD: The Interior minister Mohsin Naqvi had said that the decision regarding the military operation in Afghanistan will be carried out on the government level.
The Federal minister Mohsin Naqvi was addressing to a meeting in the Senate of Pakistan.
It is not possible that attacks come from Afghanistan and we remain silent,” said Senator Mohsin Naqvi while addressing the Senate.
He stated that Field Marshal Asim Munir played a key role in the negotiations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which resulted in the Sri Lankan cricket team deciding to continue their stay in Islamabad.
He added that the Field Marshal personally spoke with Sri Lanka’s Defence Minister, convinced him, and assured full security for the team.
He further mentioned that the Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced late last night that the team’s ongoing tour of Pakistan would continue as planned, averting a potential crisis.
During his speech in the Senate, the Federal Interior Minister reminded that the Sri Lankan team had initially decided to leave following the recent bomb blasts, but after discussions with their board and players, they courageously chose to stay.
It is worth noting that following the suicide attack in Islamabad, some Sri Lankan players had expressed concerns about their safety, with reports suggesting that a few might cut short the tour.
However, the team’s manager denied these reports. Later, speaking informally to journalists outside Parliament, Mohsin Naqvi stated that the attackers in the Wana Cadet College and Islamabad incidents were Afghan nationals.
When asked whether action would be taken inside Afghanistan, the Interior Minister replied that the government will now decide on this matter, emphasizing, “It is not possible that they carry out attacks and we remain silent.”
He also expressed gratitude to the Sri Lankan President, government, cricket board, and players.
