Pak puts customs on high alert in Balochistan to block illegal movement of Afghan goods

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has placed customs authorities in Balochistan on high alert, directing them to intensify efforts against the illegal transportation of Afghan-origin goods following the recent closure of borders with Afghanistan.

As per the new directive issued by the FBR’s Customs Wing, all relevant customs formations across Balochistan have been instructed to take immediate and comprehensive measures to prevent any attempt at smuggling through unauthorized routes.

The notification focuses that with formal border crossings temporarily shut, there is a heightened risk of illegal trade activities by elements seeking to exploit the situation.

Furthermore, the FBR has directed the Chief Collector of Customs (Appraisement), Balochistan, based in Quetta, to ensure that all subordinate units are fully mobilized. The directive calls for increased vigilance, strict patrolling, and enhanced coordination among field teams to block potential smuggling channels.

In this regard, the communication further states that any unauthorized movement of goods must be stopped immediately, with strict enforcement actions to be taken on the spot.

It warns that negligence in implementing these measures will not be tolerated, given the need to curb the rising trend of smuggling in the province.

Moreover, the FBR noted that illegal trade not only harms the national exchequer but also undermines legitimate commerce and contributes to security challenges in the region.

In this sense, the directive concludes with a clear message: all customs teams must remain alert, proactive, and fully aligned with the national strategy to prevent illicit movement of goods.

The government expects strict compliance to ensure that smuggling activities are effectively deterred and controlled across Balochistan.
