ECP Extends Nomination Papers Deadline for Islamabad Local Elections

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday extended the deadline for submitting nomination papers for candidates participating in Islamabad’s local government elections.

The electoral body said two additional days have been added to the submission period.

According to an ECP spokesperson, the new deadline is now set for Dec. 30, 2025.

Earlier, the last date for submission was Dec. 27.

The move follows a request from the opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which had asked the ECP to extend the nomination deadline for its candidates.

Earlier this month, the ECP had announced its reserved verdict on petitions regarding the postponement of municipal elections in Islamabad and released schedule for the elections.

The Commission had declared the recent amendments made to the Islamabad Local Government Act, 2015 as inconsistent with the Constitution and existing electoral laws.
