Lahore: National cricket team player Mohammad Rizwan challenges NCCIA summons in Lahore High Court, questioning the agency’s jurisdiction and the nature of the investigation being conducted against him.
Rizwan has filed a petition before the Lahore High Court against the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) summons. Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Aalia Neelum is scheduled to hear the petition.
In his petition, Mohammad Rizwan has questioned the legal basis and scope of the NCCIA investigation. He maintained that the agency did not provide him with details of any specific allegation when summoning him.
According to the NCCIA notice, the investigation concerns allegations related to online betting and gambling. Rizwan stated that during his appearance before the agency, he repeatedly sought details about the alleged illegal activities but did not receive answers to his questions.
The cricketer has questioned why the NCCIA is investigating allegations that, according to his petition, have not been clearly specified. He has asked the Lahore High Court to suspend the NCCIA proceedings until a final decision is made on his petition.
The development comes after the NCCIA issued questionnaires to Mohammad Rizwan and fellow Pakistan cricketer Imam-ul-Haq. Both players were directed to submit their responses by September 15.
Imam-ul-Haq has already submitted his response to the NCCIA questionnaire, while Mohammad Rizwan has approached the Lahore High Court regarding the agency’s summons and investigation.
The court’s proceedings will determine how the petition is dealt with and whether any interim relief is granted to Rizwan.
