ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif expressed concern over what he described as repeated actions by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) leadership that are undermining national unity and inter-provincial harmony.
In this regard, in a response to a letter written by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the defence minister took to social media platform X to voice his reservations.
He said that certain political activities and public conduct were creating divisions at a time when unity and mutual respect among provinces were essential for the country’s stability.
In this sense, Khawaja Asif alleged that workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), with what he termed the patronage of their leadership, were using highly abusive and inappropriate language on social media platforms.
He stated that such behavior was not only unacceptable but also harmful to the dignity of constitutional offices and democratic norms.
“These actions are damaging constitutional institutions and eroding inter-provincial respect,” the defence minister said in his statement. He stressed that public discourse, particularly when linked to political leadership, should remain within the bounds of decency and responsibility.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized that the use of offensive language and confrontational rhetoric weakens democratic traditions and fuels unnecessary tensions among provinces.
He added that political differences should be addressed through dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to constitutional principles rather than through hostile campaigns or personal attacks.
The defence minister’s indicates come amid ongoing political tensions between the federal government and the KP provincial administration.
