Jordan’s King Abdullah due in Pakistan today to boost strategic ties

ISLAMABAD: Jordan’s King Abdullah will arrive in Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day state visit aimed at elevating strategic ties, the Pakistani foreign ministry said.

Pakistan and Jordan maintain close relations and took part in discussions on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan alongside Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Indonesia, Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates.

During the visit, King Abdullah will meet Pakistan’s president and prime minister to review the full range of bilateral relations, the foreign office said.

The ministry said the visit will strengthen the strategic direction of Pakistan–Jordan ties and push them toward a broader political, economic and cultural partnership.

Jordan recognized Pakistan as the world’s fifth country to do so, with diplomatic relations established in August 1948.

Bilateral trade reached $46.58 million in 2023, according to Pakistan’s embassy in Amman. Jordan also hosts about 16,000 Pakistani nationals.

Pakistan will hold a special ceremony at the Presidency to confer its highest civilian award on King Abdullah during the trip, the foreign office said.
