ISLAMABAD: Israel released former Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed and he reached the Pakistani embassy in Amman, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed Monday.
In a post on X, Ishaq Dar said, “Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed has been released and has safely reached our embassy in Jordan. He is in good health and high spirits.” Dar added that the embassy stood ready to assist Ahmed’s return to Pakistan “as per his wishes and convenience” and thanked friendly countries for helping the Foreign Office.

In his first video message after release, Mushtaq Ahmed said he endured harsh treatment in Israeli custody but vowed that the struggle for Palestine would continue. “From Adiala jail to Israeli prisons, our resistance for the freedom of Palestine will go on,” he said.
Ahmed described severe mistreatment during detention. He said authorities bound his hands behind his back, shackled his feet, released dogs against detainees and blindfolded prisoners. He said Israeli jailers forced guns on prisoners and denied them access to fresh air, water and medicine. Ahmed said he and others staged a three-day hunger strike to press their demands.
Reiterating his pledge of solidarity with Gaza, he said, “We will keep breaking the Gaza blockade, bring those responsible for the killings in Gaza to justice, and continue the struggle from Adiala to Israeli jails.”
Mushtaq Ahmed travelled as part of the Samood Flotilla, a convoy that sought to express solidarity with Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid. The flotilla included nearly 500 human rights activists and volunteers from several countries, the former senator’s supporters said.
Ishaq Dar’s statement and Ahmed’s video came as Islamabad’s diplomats in Amman coordinated consular assistance and prepared for the senator’s onward travel according to his wishes.
