TEHRAN: Iran has proposed a new regional security framework for the Gulf, urging neighboring countries to form a joint alliance to safeguard the region without outside military involvement.
According to Iranian media, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the proposal after meeting Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Aboudi. He said recent developments had shown that regional countries must take responsibility for their own security and shape future security arrangements through mutual consultation.
Araghchi said Iran was ready to work with Gulf states to establish a regional security framework that would include both defense cooperation and economic partnership.
