QUETTA: Iran has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a passenger train near the Quetta railway station and called for enhanced regional cooperation to combat militant groups.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqai stated that Iran considers the fight against terrorism an international responsibility. “We express solidarity with the people and government of Pakistan against terrorism in Quetta and extend our condolences to the families of the deceased,” Baqai said.
In addition to Iran’s official statement, the embassies of both Iran and Russia in Pakistan separately condemned the blast that occurred near the Quetta railway station.
Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moqadam denounced the attack in strong terms, saying that the planners, facilitators, and supporters of the heinous act possess an anti-human mentality.
The Russian embassy echoed similar sentiments, expressing hope that those behind the attack would be swiftly identified and brought to justice.
The condemnations come in the wake of Sunday’s powerful explosion on the railway track near Chaman Phatak in Quetta. According to police, the blast was so intense that its shockwaves shattered glass and windows of nearby buildings. The explosion also damaged the train and at least 10 vehicles parked in the vicinity.
The tragic incident has so far claimed 14 lives, including three FC personnel, while leaving dozens of others injured. Security forces have cordoned off the area, and an investigation is underway to apprehend those responsible.
