TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that its forces have killed more than 200 American soldiers in retaliatory strikes since Washington violated a ceasefire memorandum, a figure that stands in stark contrast to official U.S. casualty counts.
In an interview with Iran’s Tasnim news agency, IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said the number of American personnel killed in “Operation Victory-2” exceeds 200, with the number of wounded “well above this figure.” Mohebbi dismissed all U.S. reports on its casualties as “completely false” and challenged Washington to allow independent verification.
“Washington’s figures on American casualties are a complete lie,” General Mohebbi said, according to the IRGC. He claimed that Iranian attacks targeted eight U.S. military bases in the region and destroyed 20 protective shelters at a single location. The U.S. government, he added, should permit journalists to visit the destroyed bases “so that they can estimate for themselves how many American soldiers were killed.”
The IRGC spokesman also provided a detailed inventory of destroyed U.S. military assets, claiming that over a two-week period, Iranian forces destroyed 11 warplanes and helicopters, 17 drones, an F-15 fighter jet in a shelter, a P-8 maritime surveillance aircraft, a C-17 transport aircraft, and eight refueling aircraft.
The claims come as the U.S. military has acknowledged significantly lower casualties. According to Reuters and the Associated Press, the total number of U.S. service members killed since the conflict began stands at 17, with more than 420 others wounded. The Pentagon has confirmed that two U.S. servicemen were killed in an Iranian missile strike on a base in Jordan, and that nearly a dozen soldiers injured in Iranian attacks across the region in July were flown to a U.S. military hospital in Germany for treatment.
The IRGC’s statements come amid an escalating conflict, with Iranian forces reportedly striking U.S. bases in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain in recent days. The U.S. has conducted its own series of airstrikes against Iran, which Iranian officials say have killed at least 55 people and wounded more than 640 since late June.
