Indian bride reaches Pakistani husband after ordeal

KARACHI: Noor Fatima, an Indian national who converted to Islam and married a Pakistani man, has finally reached her husband’s house after being held at Darul Aman for weeks. Formerly known as Sarbjit Kaur, she entered Pakistan three months ago with a group of Sikh pilgrims but opted to stay back after marrying Nasir Hussain, a Karachi resident.

The couple first connected on social media in 2016. Upon her arrival, Noor Fatima converted to Islam and changed her name. However, authorities detained her when she refused to return to India, sending her to Darul Aman—a shelter for women in distress—pending legal proceedings.

Officials from the abandoned waqf property department intervened and granted Noor Fatima permission to leave the shelter and reunite with her husband. On [insert day], she was escorted to Nasir Hussain’s residence, where family members and locals welcomed her.

“We are grateful to the authorities for resolving the matter,” Nasir said. “We just want to live peacefully now.”

Noor Fatima’s case drew attention due to its cross-border nature and the legal hurdles faced by individuals entering Pakistan on religious visas. Sources say her documents are being processed to regularise her stay.
