JORHAT, India: An Indian Air Force AN-32 transport aircraft was involved in an accident during landing at Jorhat airbase in Assam, raising fresh concerns over aviation safety, officials and media reports said.

The aircraft reportedly developed a technical fault while touching down on the runway. It went out of control and caught fire shortly after landing.

Senior Air Force officials also reached the site to assess the situation.

A defence spokesperson said there was no immediate confirmation of casualties or injuries. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.

The latest accident comes amid growing concerns over repeated technical failures and crashes involving Indian Air Force aircraft in recent years.

Aviation analysts say recurring incidents are raising questions over operational readiness, maintenance systems and safety protocols.

Observers note that frequent mishaps are increasingly impacting the service’s safety record and public perception.
