QUETTA: A police patrol team had a narrow escape late Saturday night when armed motorcyclists attacked them with bombs and grenades near Dera Murad Jamali. The attack was foiled after the explosives failed to detonate, leading to a brief exchange of fire before the assailants fled the scene.
According to police officials, the patrol team was targeted by unknown armed motorcyclists on the outskirts of the city. The attackers hurled grenades and attempted to detonate an explosive device at the police party. Fortunately, the bomb did not explode, averting what could have been a major casualty incident.
Following the failed bombing, an exchange of fire took place between the police team and the attackers. Taking advantage of the darkness of the night, the armed men managed to escape from the area.
Upon receiving information about the incident, heavy police contingents and a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) were rushed to the spot. The BDS team safely defused the live bomb, which was later recovered from the site.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search operation to track down the suspects. No injuries were reported in the attack. Further investigation is underway.
