GWADAR: The Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor of Gwadar University, along with two other officials, have gone missing near Mastung, according to authorities.
Media reports say the Vice Chancellor Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir and Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Syed Manzoor Ahmed have gone missing near Mastung area while travelling from Gwadar to Quetta. They were travelling in an official vehicle when their contact was lost.
Family members and university administration told The Express Tribune that both officials were travelling to Quetta on official duty when communication was cut off after they entered the Mastung area.
Local sources said the two officials may have been abducted along with their vehicle. However, authorities have not confirmed the claim.
Deputy Commissioner Mastung Bahram Saleem said his office was in contact with the families and security agencies.
He said search and rescue efforts were underway and all possible measures were being taken to trace the missing officials and bring them back safely.
Police and security forces launched a search operation in Mastung and surrounding areas soon after the incident was reported. Checkpoints were established and efforts continued to trace the vehicle.
Officials said no ransom call or demand had been received so far.
University sources said both academics played a key role in academic development and institutional reforms at the University of Gwadar.
Their disappearance triggered concern among students and faculty members. Students announced plans for a peace march and prayer gatherings for their safe recovery.
Family members expressed deep distress and described both officials as respected educators and compassionate individuals.
The provincial government and the Higher Education Commission have taken notice and sought urgent reports on the incident.
The Education Minister of Balochistan directed authorities to ensure a transparent investigation and swift action against those responsible if wrongdoing is confirmed.
Search operations were continuing, and officials said they were closely monitoring the situation. The incident has once again raised concerns over the security of senior academic figures in Balochistan.
