ISLAMABAD : The federal government has rejected the opposition’s demand to facilitate a meeting with incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, stating that the law does not allow such meetings to be exploited for political purposes.
Advisor to the Prime Minister in the Senate, Rana Sanaullah, firmly dismissed the opposition’s proposal to form a committee for the purpose. “There is no scope for forming a committee. The law does not allow these meetings to be used for political purposes,” he said.
Sanaullah further stated that Bushra Bibi and the PTI founder are being provided the best possible medical treatment. He advised the opposition that if they believe rules are being violated, they should approach the High Court rather than protesting in parliament.
Meanwhile, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry addressed the National Assembly, clarifying that meeting the PTI founder is not a political issue that the House can assure. “The government is looking into any issue related to the health of the PTI founder,” he said.
Responding to opposition concerns about Imran Khan being taken to the hospital at night, Chaudhry remarked, “If there is a medical emergency, he does not come after asking.”
The opposition had staged protests in both the National Assembly and the Senate, demanding a meeting with the PTI founder. Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Raja Nasir Abbas, had proposed forming a committee comprising government and opposition members to meet Imran Khan and other prisoners. The government has now officially rejected that proposal.
