ISLAMABAD : Talks between the government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) held at the Ministry of Finance to address the latter’s concerns over the federal budget have ended without any breakthrough, sources said.
The PPP is reportedly upset over not being taken into confidence during the budget-making process. According to sources, the meeting failed to resolve the party’s grievances, and no discussion took place regarding any constitutional amendment or changes to the National Finance Commission (NFC) award.
A fresh round of talks between the two sides will be held later today in an effort to bridge the divide.
Meanwhile, the budget session originally scheduled for June 5 has been postponed, with no new date announced yet. Parliamentary sources indicated that the government is keen on passing key legislation before presenting the budget.
In a related development, MQM Pakistan has linked its approval of the budget to the appointment of Kamran Tesori as the Governor of Sindh.
