Gold Lota scandal: PTI Marwat accuses Shahbaz Gill of stealing gold gift

ISLAMABAD: In a stunning internal accusation, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has alleged that fellow party member Shahbaz Gill stole a valuable gold lota (traditional vessel) gifted by the Sikh community during the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor.

Speaking on Samaa News’ program Red Line, Marwat claimed the gold item was entrusted to Shahbaz Gill as a gift marking the corridor’s opening but was never delivered to its intended recipient, Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan. Instead, Marwat alleged, Gill sold the loot to a tycoon in the petroleum industry. He further stated that Gill was previously arrested in connection with the theft of the gold lota and two mobile phones.

“PTI people have made looters their leaders,” Marwat declared, escalating his criticism. He asserted that Shahbaz Gill used to accept money under the pretext of arranging meetings with PTI leadership.

Turning to broader party issues, Marwat defended PTI against labels of supporting terrorism but warned that the government would face trouble if several jailed PTI leaders were released. He insisted the party’s founder is imprisoned unjustly. Marwat also commented on internal party dynamics, suggesting that certain figures, like Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, were included in discussions due to personal animosities within the party’s ranks.

The allegations have sparked controversy, highlighting internal fissures within PTI. There has been no immediate public response from Shahbaz Gill regarding the serious charges leveled by his party colleague.

Meanwhile the Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be warmly welcomed whenever he visits Sindh. He said the provincial government will provide full security and official protocol in line with Sindh’s traditions.

Memon said the people of Sindh prioritise hospitality above politics. He said guests are respected regardless of political differences. He added that leaders and chief ministers from PTI, PML-N, and other political parties will also receive a welcome in Sindh.
