Quetta voters and candidates urged to ensure registration

QUETTA: In the light of the instructions given by the Balochistan High Court, the Election Commission of Pakistan is carrying out brief arrangement for conducting the local body election in District Quetta.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has appealed from the voters and the candidates to check their votes’ registration in the Electoral lists and the concerned wards.

They should immediately consult the District Election Commissioner for the registration of their votes in the list, transfer, exclusion and correction.

It is worth mentioning that after the completion of the electoral lists, the Election Commission will immediately announce the schedule of the local body election.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has stressed that once the schedule for the election is issued, not registration of the vote, transfer, exclusion or correction will be entertained under the section 39 of Election Act 2017.

It is worth mentioning that the Balochistan High Court had ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct the local body election in Quetta after denying the objections on the constituencies and the consensus 2020 a few days ago.

On the other hand, the sources say that  the local body elections in Quetta are moving forward with preparations gaining pace.

The Election Commission has urged voters to verify their registration in the electoral lists so that no eligible citizen is left out.

Political parties and independent candidates have started their groundwork, focusing on neighborhood-level issues like sanitation, water supply, and road maintenance.

These elections are seen as an important opportunity for local communities to choose representatives who understand their day-to-day challenges.

There is a growing expectation that the polls will bring more responsive governance, since elected representatives at the local level can act faster on public concerns.

Citizens and civil society groups are also calling for transparency, peaceful campaigning, and fair competition to ensure that the process contributes to stronger grassroots democracy in Quetta.
