Noor Muhammad Dummar claims 2.5-year power-sharing deal for Balochistan Chief Ministership

QUETTA: A provincial minister from the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) claimed on Thursday that an agreement has been reached between the PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on a power-sharing formula for the government formation in Balochistan.

Provincial Minister for Food and PML-N Member of the Provincial Assembly, Noor Muhammad Dummar, told media after an assembly session that according to the formula, Mir Sarfraz Bugti of the PPP will remain as the Chief Minister for the first two and a half years. He stated that the possibility of a change exists after that period.

Dummar explained that he was informed of this arrangement by the top leadership of the PML-N and that the details of the formula were discussed in the party’s high-level meetings. He described the agreement as a document in the possession of the leadership, but he separately noted that its implementation is a separate matter.

When asked about who the next candidate for chief minister might be, Dummar said that the PML-N leadership would make a decision in the best interests of the province, and any name that comes forward would be for the benefit of the party and Balochistan.
