QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhel on Monday extended heartfelt greetings to the Hindu community on the occasion of Diwali and wished them joy, peace, and prosperity.
In his message, Governor Mandokhel emphasized the significance of Diwali, describing it as a festival that promotes peace, tolerance, and coexistence.
He appreciated the Hindu community’s vital role in Balochistan’s development and trade and urged them to continue their active participation in the province’s economic growth and social harmony.
The governor expressed confidence that the Hindu community would keep contributing to the progress and prosperity of both Balochistan and Pakistan in the years ahead.
Earlier, the provincial government has announced a public holiday for Hindu employees across the province on the occasion of Diwali, one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar.
In this regard, the government has issued an official notification, Hindu government employees will observe a holiday on Tuesday, October 21, in celebration of the festival of lights.
In this sense, the Hindu employees working in government departments, autonomous bodies, and other provincial institutions will be entitled to the holiday.
The decision indicates the provincial government’s commitment to promoting religious harmony and ensuring that members of all faiths are able to celebrate their religious and cultural occasions with dignity and freedom.
Furthermore, Diwali, also known as Deepavali, denotes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It is celebrated with traditional prayers, the lighting of oil lamps, decoration of homes, and the exchange of sweets among family and friends.
Moreover, the Hindu community has a long and respected presence, particularly in districts such as Quetta, Lasbela, Kalat, and Khuzdar. They are known for their active contributions to trade, education, and social welfare in the province.
