CUTTACK, INDIA: A woman traveling by car through the Indian state of Odisha was reportedly gang-raped by six individuals.
According to Indian media reports, the victim was traveling with a male companion from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar when six attackers intercepted their vehicle and assaulted the male companion.
The perpetrators then proceeded to take turns sexually assaulting the woman.
Following the incident, the victim filed a formal complaint with local police officer Vineet Agrawal, prompting the assignment of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank officer to investigate the case.
This event follows other recent high-profile atrocities, including a nationwide protest sparked by the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in West Bengal, and a gang rape of a 7-year-old girl in Rajasthan.
These continuous, successive crimes against women and children in India have led international human rights organizations to steadily increase pressure on the Indian government and relevant authorities.
