Curfew extended for second day in Upper South Waziristan

JANDOLA: Curfew imposed amid security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP Tank district.

Authorities have imposed a curfew in Tank district due to security concerns, according to a notification issued by the district administration.

 

The curfew will remain in effect from 6 am to 6 pm. All major highways, including the South Waziristan routes via Wana and Jandola, have been closed to all types of traffic. The Dera Ismail Khan highway will also remain shut during the curfew hours.

 

In addition, the Jandola fair has been postponed, while Ranwal Bazaar and Jandola Bazaar have been closed. Officials have not yet provided further details on the specific security threats prompting the measures.

Meanwhile cross-border firing erupts between Pakistan army and Afghan forces in Khyber district

Security sources reported intense exchange of fire between Pakistan Army troops and Afghan border forces at multiple locations along the Pak-Afghan border in Khyber district on Wednesday evening.

The skirmish began around 5:15 PM and continued in the Bazaar Zakha Khel area, specifically at the Maro Sar and Shah Kot Sar posts.

Both sides reportedly used heavy weapons during the engagement.

According to initial reports from security officials, no casualties have been confirmed on either side so far.

The situation remains tense, with firing still ongoing at the time of the latest update.

This incident comes amid persistent border tensions between the two countries, often linked to militant movements and differing security perceptions along the porous Durand Line.
