CM Bugti acts swiftly, 6 held after suspects burned on coals in Musakhel

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has taken strict notice and ordered immediate action following a horrific incident in Musakhel district, where several men were subjected to an inhumane act of torture.

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has taken strict notice and ordered immediate action following a horrific incident in Musakhel district, where several men were subjected to an inhumane act of torture. The victims were allegedly burned on bare coals on suspicion of theft, an act the CM condemned as illegal and barbaric.

In a post on social media platform X, CM Bugti stated, “Taking strict notice of the inhumane and illegal act of burning suspects on bare coals in Musakhel district… immediate action has been directed.” He confirmed that six main accused have been arrested and the arrest of two more will be ensured soon. “No one is above the law, we will not compromise on human rights and state writ!” Bugti asserted.

According to Deputy Commissioner Musakhel Razaq Khan Khajak, the incident stemmed from a local shopkeeper, Gul Jan, suspecting six individuals of stealing twenty thousand rupees. A small, local jirga (tribal council) reportedly decided to subject the suspects to an outdated ritual punishment. Initial investigations reveal that a person named Ghulam Muhammad prepared a “dehkta alao” (a fire pit) for the brutal act.

The Balochistan Home Department, in a statement, confirmed the arrests and stated that strict action is being taken against all those involved in the illegal activity. Chief Minister Bugti expressed deep anger over the incident, labeling it an inhumane act conducted under an outdated and illegal ritual.

The swift government response underscores a firm stance against extra-judicial punishments and a commitment to upholding the rule of law and human rights in the province. Authorities have vowed to continue their crackdown to prevent any recurrence of such brutal vigilante actions.

Meanwhile Senator Maulana Abdul Wasi, Ameer of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Balochistan, declared on Tuesday that his party is poised for a decisive victory in the upcoming local body elections, despite what he termed as the “unstinted use” of government machinery by rival political forces.

Addressing the media in Quetta, Wasi confidently predicted that JUI candidates would secure key positions, including those of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Town Chairman. He asserted that the party’s support on the ground remains solid and will overcome any administrative advantage wielded against them.
