Blockade ‘No Different from Bombing,’ Says Iran Official; Calls for Action

U.S., Iran May Hold Second Round of Talks in Islamabad

TEHRAN:  An advisor to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Baqir Qalibaf, has dismissed US President Donald Trump’s extension of the ceasefire, stating that the move holds no significance and that the blockade must be met with a military response.

In a statement, the advisor said that “the losing side cannot dictate the conditions.” He added that the continuation of the blockade is “no different from bombing” and should be responded to with military action.

The remarks come at a time when President Trump announced on Truth Social that the US attack on Iran is being postponed at the request of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan. Trump stated that the delay is intended to allow Iranian leadership and representatives to present a unanimous proposal.

Trump further said that the ceasefire extension will remain in place until a proposal is submitted by Iran and negotiations reach a conclusion. He has instructed the US military to continue the blockade against Iran and to remain fully prepared in all other matters.

Iranian officials have not yet issued an official government response to Trump’s announcement. However, the statement from the parliamentary speaker’s advisor reflects deepening resistance within Tehran’s political circles to both the blockade and any negotiations under the current conditions.

There has been no immediate reaction from the White House or the Pakistani government regarding Iran’s latest comments
