BLA claims responsibility for attack, identifies attacker; missing persons narrative exposed

The fresh controversy has emerged following a statement by a terroist organization Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which claimed responsibility for a recent attack and identified the attacker as Attaullah Baloch.

The development has intensified the exposed political debate over narratives surrounding missing persons in Balochistan.

In this regard, some commentators and government supporters argued that the identification of the attacker contradicts previous claims in which Attaullah Baloch’s name had appeared on lists mentioning cases of enforced disappearances.

They contend that the latest development raises questions about the accuracy of certain claims made regarding missing persons.

The issue has also fueled criticism of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC). In this sense, the critics have alleged that the organization’s campaigns concerning missing persons contribute to anti-state narratives and questioned its credibility in light of the recent developments.

However, BYC has consistently maintained that it is a peaceful rights-based movement advocating for justice, accountability, and the recovery of missing persons, and it has rejected allegations linking it to militant organizations.

So far, some political commentators have alleged connections between BYC, the BLA, and India’s external intelligence agency, RAW.

These allegations have been made by critics and government supporters, who argue that such coordination aims to undermine security and development projects in Balochistan, including Gwadar Port and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

These allegations remain disputed, and no independent evidence has been publicly presented to conclusively establish such links. BYC has denied accusations of involvement in militancy, while India has consistently rejected Pakistani allegations that it supports militant groups operating in Balochistan.
