DHAKA: Bangladesh and Pakistan have significant relations to deepen cooperation in trade, connectivity, and investment, visiting Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza.
In this regard, the meeting, held at the State Guest House Jamuna, focused on ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two South Asian nations. General Mirza mentioned the shared history, cultural links, and people-to-people connections that continue to bind Bangladesh and Pakistan.
In this sense, “Our two countries will support each other,” General Mirza said, noting that Pakistan seeks to expand collaboration across multiple sectors.
He also announced that a two-way shipping route between Karachi and Chittagong has already begun operations, and a direct air route between Dhaka and Karachi is expected to open within the next few months.

Moreover, both leaders exchanged views on expanding trade and investment opportunities, as well as strengthening cooperation in defence and security.
They underlined the importance of strengthening regional connectivity and ensuring stability through mutual understanding and dialogue.
The meeting also touched upon pressing global and regional issues, including ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Europe.
On the contrary, the growing threat of misinformation and the misuse of social media platforms by non-state actors to incite unrest. Chief Adviser Yunus warned that disinformation campaigns pose a major challenge to global stability.
“Fake news and disinformation have flooded social media. It is being used to sow chaos. There must be a concerted global effort to combat this menace,” he said.
In addition, National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, Senior Secretary and SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed, and Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider were also present at the meeting.
