Balochistan news update: Govt to introduce new sectors in tax net to boost revenue

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA) Advisory Council, which reviewed tax collection from 2016 to 2025 and outlined new measures to increase revenue.

Officials presented a performance report during the session, after which the council decided to expand the scope of the services tax by identifying new sectors to be brought into the tax net. The meeting also approved plans to introduce training programs aimed at improving the professional capacity of BRA officers and staff.

Chief Minister Bugti emphasised the need for Balochistan to enhance its financial resources and move toward greater fiscal autonomy. “The establishment of authorities aims to strengthen provincial resources. The Balochistan Revenue Authority must play its part in boosting revenue,” he said.

He added that transparency and ease in the tax system remain the government’s top priorities. The province will introduce modern technology to facilitate taxpayers, implement strategies to curb tax evasion, and strengthen revenue generation.

Bugti stressed that the government will adopt effective policies to enhance revenue and ensure accountability. He announced that the Advisory Council will continue to meet regularly to review the BRA’s performance and monitor its targets.
