Livestock secretary highlights women’s empowerment

KANRAJ: Balochistan Livestock Secretary Muhammad Tayyab Lehri visited the Women Farmers’ Field School in Kanraj, where he observed training sessions aimed at improving rural women’s livestock management skills.

In Balochistan News Updates,Female farmers shared that the specialized training had not only improved animal care and productivity but also increased household incomes.

During the visit, a master trainer briefed participants on the training modules, and agricultural inputs were distributed to support small-scale livestock activities.

Secretary Lehri commended the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for its ongoing support, stating that such initiatives are crucial for economically empowering rural women and creating sustainable income opportunities.

He emphasized that the program is particularly significant for protecting the livestock sector from climate-related risks, including droughts and extreme weather, which often threaten the livelihoods of Balochistan’s pastoral communities.

He further noted that the province is focusing on animal health campaigns, improved breeding programs, and climate-resilient practices to enhance livestock productivity and ensure food security.

The Secretary added that partnerships between the provincial government and international organizations like the FAO are helping to modernize the livestock value chain, strengthen local markets, and provide women with the training needed to run successful dairy and meat businesses.

According to the Livestock Department, similar projects have been launched in other districts to expand veterinary services, improve rangeland management, and establish cold storage and processing facilities.

Officials believe these measures will reduce disease outbreaks, increase milk and meat yields, and open export opportunities.
