ISLAMABAD: Pakistan defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test to level the two-match series 1-1, while captain Babar Azam matched one of the country’s most prestigious individual records.
Babar Azam was named the joint Player of the Series alongside West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves after an impressive batting display throughout the series.
Babar scored 192 runs in four innings, including a crucial 88 in the second Test that helped Pakistan secure victory.
The award allowed Babar to equal Imran Khan’s Pakistan record of 10 Player of the Series honours across all international formats.
Imran Khan won the award 10 times during his career, including eight Test series and two One-Day International series.
Babar now has one Test, four ODI and five Twenty20 International Player of the Series awards. It is also the first Test Player of the Series award of his career.
The Pakistan captain also set another milestone by registering his ninth overseas Test victory in just his 12th match as captain.
In doing so, Babar surpassed former Australia captain Steve Waugh and now holds the best overseas win ratio among captains who have led their teams in at least 12 Test matches.
Pakistan bounced back strongly after losing the opening Test to claim the second match and salvage the series.
Abdullah Shafique laid the foundation with a superb 160 in the first innings, giving Pakistan a 43-run lead.
Spinner Sajid Khan then dismantled the West Indies batting line-up, taking eight wickets in the match to seal an emphatic victory.
The win helped Pakistan finish the series level at 1-1 under Babar’s leadership.
