Ayaz Sadiq assumes role of Acting President, welcomes peace deal in AJK

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has assumed the charge of acting president in the absence of both the president and the Senate chairman. The notification stated that Ayaz Sadiq will perform the duties of acting president under Article 49(2) of the Constitution.

He will continue to serve in this capacity until both the president and Senate chairman return to the country.

In this sense, after assuming charge, Sadiq welcomed the successful conclusion of negotiations between the government’s committee and the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

He described the agreement reached between the two sides as a “positive and constructive development,” focusing on the restoration of peace and normalcy in the region was a matter of great satisfaction.

“The successful talks have put to rest all baseless rumours and conspiracies against Pakistan,” Sadiq said, expressing confidence that the outcome of the discussions would help promote stability and unity.

Furthermore, he lauded both the government’s negotiation team and the JAAC representatives for demonstrating responsibility, patience, and a result-oriented approach throughout the process.

The acting president noted that such dialogue indicated the government’s commitment to resolving issues through mutual understanding and respect.

Moreover, Sadiq confirmed that ensuring public welfare and maintaining peace remain the government’s top priorities. He called upon all political and social stakeholders to strengthen national unity and focus on the collective development of the country, rather than being distracted by unfounded claims or divisive narratives.

However, Sadiq, who has previously served as speaker of the National Assembly multiple times, is known for his diplomatic temperament and focus on dialogue and institutional harmony.
