Australia Clinch T20I Series Against Bangladesh

CHITTAGONG: Australia secured an unassailable lead in the three-match T20I series after defeating Bangladesh by 7 runs in a thrilling, nerve-wracking second encounter.

Batting first, Australia posted a formidable total of 196 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.

The star of the innings was Matt Renshaw, who played a sensational, unbeaten knock of 89 runs off just 52 deliveries.

He was ably supported by Tim David, who smashed a quickfire 45 off 26 balls, while skipper Mitchell Marsh chipped in with 20.

Nasum Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, claiming two wickets.

In reply, Bangladesh put up a spirited fightback but fell just short, finishing their 20 overs at 189 for 6.

Saif Hassan led the charge with 42 runs, complemented by Parvez Hossain Emon’s 36 and Towhid Hridoy’s 35.

Aaron Hardie struck twice for the visitors, while Renshaw also picked up a crucial wicket. With this victory, Australia takes a decisive 2-0 lead in the series. Matt Renshaw was named Player of the Match for his stellar all-round performance.

 Australia vs Bangladesh T20I Head-to-Head

Prior to this 2026 bilateral tour, T20I encounters between Australia and Bangladesh were relatively rare but highly competitive.

Historically, Australia has maintained upper-hand dominance in major tournaments, notably securing clinical victories during the 2021 and 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cups.

However, Bangladesh has proven to be a fierce opponent on their home turf.

Their most famous milestone came in August 2021, when the Tigers shocked the cricketing world by securing a historic 4-1 T20I series victory against Australia in Dhaka, heavily leveraging their spin-friendly home conditions.

With Australia’s consecutive victories in Chittagong to seal this 2026 series, the overall head-to-head record now stands at 8 wins for Australia and 5 wins for Bangladesh across 13 total T20I meetings.

This latest series win serves as vital redemption for the visitors, who had previously dropped the ODI leg of the tour to a resilient Bangladeshi side.
