Australia Name New-Look Squads for Pakistan and Bangladesh Series

MELBOURNE: Cricket Australia has named new-look squads for the upcoming limited-overs series against Pakistan and Bangladesh, resting senior fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood ahead of the next World Test Championship cycle.

For the one-day series against Pakistan starting on May 30, Australia handed maiden call-ups to former Under-19 World Cup captain Oliver Peake and all-rounder Liam Scott.

Young batter Joel Davies was also included in the squad for the Twenty20 series against Bangladesh.

Fast bowlers Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake returned to the national setup after missing recent assignments.

Selection chairman George Bailey said the absence of senior players would provide younger cricketers with an opportunity to showcase their abilities at the international level.

Mitchell Marsh will captain Australia during both tours, while experienced all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was left out of the T20 squad for Bangladesh.

Cricket Australia said Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood would rest as part of preparations for the upcoming World Test Championship campaign, which begins in August.

Australia will play a three-match ODI series against Pakistan, with the first match scheduled in Rawalpindi on May 30, followed by matches in Lahore on June 2 and June 4.
