Security Forces Repel Late-Night Attack on Police Post in Bannu

BANNU: A militant attack on a police post in Bannu was foiled following a prompt response by security personnel, police officials said.

The attack was carried out at around 1:30 am on the Mazangah checkpost, according to police. A large number of militants were reported to have been involved.

An immediate and sustained exchange of fire took place. The confrontation continued until dawn, after which the attackers were forced to retreat, officials said. Losses were reported among the militants.

Reinforcements were deployed from the Bannu police lines under the leadership of District Police Officer Yasir Afridi. Additional security forces were also moved in, and control of the area was secured.

A joint search operation was launched. Blood traces were found at the site, and weapons and equipment abandoned by the attackers were recovered, including bandoliers, a ladder, and footwear.

One police constable, Fareedullah, was reported to have sustained minor injuries during the exchange of fire. Immediate medical assistance was provided.

Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised the performance of the personnel and described them as a valuable asset to the province.

It was stated that militants target civilians through such attacks, and a strong response would continue to be ensured.

Police officials reiterated their resolve to eliminate militancy and respond firmly to any such incidents.
