RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir hosted a reception for army veterans on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day, the military said.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media affairs wing of the armed forces, said in a statement that a large number of retired officers and soldiers attended the reception. Former Army Chiefs General Ashfaq Kayani, and General Raheel Sharif were among the participants.
Field Marshal paid tribute to the veterans for their contributions and years of service to the country’s defence.
He also acknowledged their role in strengthening national resilience.
The army chief said veterans’ experience, guidance and continued engagement remained a valuable institutional asset.
He said their contribution was particularly important as Pakistan faced an increasingly complex and evolving security environment.
The veterans expressed confidence in the Pakistan Army’s leadership. They reaffirmed their support for the armed forces in addressing emerging security challenges.

The veterans also pledged to continue contributing to national unity, peace, stability and prosperity.
On the eve of the country’s 80th Independence Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inagurated the Yadgar-i-Fatah monument, built to honour Pakistan’s martyrs and commemorate Marka-i-Haq.
Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf were in attendance and stood for the national anthem, played by a military band.
Military attaches, officers of the three services, Foreign diplomats and other senior officials nd politicians were also in attendance.
