Balochistan journalists working under tough conditions, says CM Bugti

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, on World Press Freedom day, acknowledged the challenging circumstances faced by journalists in the province and stressed his government’s commitment to protecting their rights and promoting responsible journalism.

Chief Minister Bugti mentioned that the most vital aspect of press freedom is responsible journalism, which, he stated, must be collectively encouraged by both the government and media owners.

The Chief Minister also called for a broader and more balanced portrayal of Balochistan in the national media. He expressed concern that national television channels often limit their coverage of the province to crime-related stories. In the meantime, they neglect important social issues and developmental initiatives.

He further urged media houses to activate their bureaus within Balochistan and ensure a consistent presence in the province.

Furthermore, Bugti announced that the provincial government has already begun working on initiatives for their welfare among these, a housing scheme for journalists is currently underway, aimed at providing secure and affordable residential facilities to members of the press.

The Chief Minister underlined that responsible journalism plays a key role in the development of society and must be promoted at every level. He stressed that media can act as a bridge between the people and the government, ensuring accountability and transparency.

On the contrary, Balochistan, rich in natural resources and cultural heritage, continues to make steady progress despite its challenges.
