ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Prime Minister’s aide Ikhtiyar Wali Khan has criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government over governance and the province’s law and order situation, calling for greater attention to security challenges and stronger provincial institutions.
Speaking to the media, Khan questioned the priorities of the provincial government and expressed concern over what he described as rising administrative challenges, drug trafficking and deterioration in the security situation across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Khan said the province was facing serious law and order challenges and alleged that the security situation had been deteriorating gradually. He also claimed that terrorist attacks were increasing while the overall security environment was becoming more difficult.
He urged the provincial government to focus on addressing the security concerns rather than allowing institutional weaknesses to deepen.
The PML-N leader particularly criticised the alleged neglect of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), saying that the department plays an important role in countering terrorism and maintaining security in the province.
According to Khan, provincial institutions could become weaker if security agencies are not provided with adequate resources and modern equipment. He further claimed that the KP government had returned modern CTD vehicles to the federal government.
Khan referred to police casualties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while highlighting the challenges faced by law enforcement personnel.
He said that 63 police personnel were killed and 122 injured in the province during 2025, and claimed that the provincial government had failed to provide the CTD with modern weapons.
The figures cited by Khan form part of his argument that law enforcement agencies require greater institutional and logistical support.
The PML-N leader also raised concerns about drug trafficking in the province, alleging that the illegal trade had reached a serious level.
Khan questioned the reasons behind what he described as administrative shortcomings and called on the provincial government to take stronger measures against activities that threaten public security.
Call for Stronger Institutions
Khan further alleged that certain elements were facilitating terrorists and drug traffickers. These were political allegations made during his criticism of the provincial government.
He called for greater attention to improving law and order, strengthening the CTD and providing security institutions with the resources required to address terrorism and other security challenges.

The remarks come amid continuing political debate over governance and security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with competing political sides frequently exchanging criticism over responsibility for the province’s security situation.
