ISLAMABAD: In a recent relief measure for citizens amidst economic challenges, the federal government has officially announced a reduction in petrol and diesel prices, with the Petroleum Division issuing a formal notification in this regard.
According to the details shared by authorities, the price of petrol has been decreased by Rs. 2.27 per liter, while high-speed diesel has seen a reduction of Rs. 3.56 per liter.
Following this downward adjustment, the new price of petrol stands at Rs. 389.03 per liter, whereas diesel is now priced at Rs. 404.97 per liter.
Government officials confirmed that these revised rates for petrol and diesel prices will remain effective until September 29, providing temporary financial relief to commuters, transport operators, and daily wage earners who have been grappling with persistent inflation across the country.
Fuel Prices in the Past Six Months
Reviewing the comprehensive trajectory of petrol and diesel prices over the past half-year reveals significant economic volatility driven by international crude oil market fluctuations, foreign exchange rate variations, and shifting global supply chain dynamics.
Throughout this six-month period, domestic petroleum rates experienced frequent, bi-weekly revisions in response to international benchmarks such as Brent crude and the stability of the local currency against the US dollar.
While certain months mandated sharp upward price adjustments due to geopolitical tensions, supply cuts by major oil-producing nations, and spikes in global energy demand, subsequent periods of stabilization allowed authorities intermittent relief windows. During these favorable phases, minor downward corrections in petrol and diesel prices were implemented to cushion consumers against the crushing weight of inflation.
Energy analysts and economic experts frequently point out that because Pakistan relies heavily on imported petroleum to meet its domestic and industrial energy requirements, local pump rates remain inextricably tied to volatile international markets.

This structural dependence ensures that citizens continue to experience a fluctuating pricing trend, where periods of slight relief are often preceded or followed by substantial cost burdens over a six-month operational cycle.
