PESHAWAR: Pakistani security forces killed two militants and wounded four others in an intelligence-based operation in Lower Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said.
The operation conducted under the Operation 11 Garaj targeted suspected hideouts of militants affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij in a mountainous area of the district.
According to security sources, intelligence indicated the presence of militants in the area. Security personnel then used aerial surveillance to monitor their movement.
Footage released by the security forces shows surveillance of the mountainous terrain and movement near the hideouts. The footage also shows the identified positions being targeted by quadcopter drones.
Security forces subsequently carried out precision strikes on two Khawarij militant hideouts, the sources said.
The strikes killed two Khawarij militants and wounded four others, according to the sources.
Meanwhile, security personnel have launched a clearance operation in the area to search the surrounding terrain and determine whether other militants remain in the vicinity.
The operation comes amid intensified counter-terrorism efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following a series of militant attacks in the province.
Pakistan has stepped up intelligence-based operations against militant groups in KP in recent weeks. Security forces have also used aerial surveillance and quadcopters in operations targeting suspected militant positions.
The latest operation in Lower Kurram remains ongoing, with security forces continuing their search and clearance activities, according to the sources.
