ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is developing a national open-source education data platform under a foreign-funded technical assistance programme aimed at improving education planning, strengthening data-driven decision-making, and making the country’s education system more inclusive and responsive.
The initiative is being implemented under the Actions to Strengthen Performance for Inclusive and Responsive Education Programme–Technical Assistance (ASPIRE-TA). According to project documents available with Wealth Pakistan, the programme has so far achieved 55 per cent physical progress and 42 per cent financial progress.
A major component of the project is the establishment of functional open-source education data platforms at both provincial and national levels. The proposed national platform is expected to provide policymakers and education authorities with improved access to reliable and timely information.
The availability of better education data could support evidence-based planning, help identify gaps in the education system, and strengthen coordination between national and provincial institutions.
The project is also examining the uptake of teacher training programmes and their potential impact on classroom practices. The assessment is expected to determine whether professional training is translating into improved teaching methods and better learning outcomes for students.
The findings could provide policymakers with evidence to refine teacher development programmes and strengthen the quality of education across the country.
Climate Education and International Assessments
Another important component of the initiative focuses on curriculum development related to climate change and environmental issues. The programme is also providing logistical support for Pakistan’s participation in international literacy and numeracy assessments.

Participation in such assessments is expected to help measure Pakistan’s education performance against international benchmarks and identify areas requiring further attention.
