LAHORE: Trouble surrounding Pakistan’s cricket team has deepened, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) opening an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports about alleged breaches of conduct by players.
The latest development comes after the PCB sent seven players home midway through Pakistan’s recent series against the West Indies following what it described as disciplinary concerns.
Now, according to media reports, nine players have been fined $800 each, while another player has reportedly received a fine of more than $800.
The reports claimed the fines were linked to alleged visits to bars or clubs during the West Indies series.
However, the PCB has not officially confirmed the reported fines, the identities of the players involved or the alleged club visits.
Meanwhile, PCB Director of Communications and Chairman’s Adviser Amir Mir said the board had launched an internal inquiry after media reports raised concerns about discipline and conduct.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct, which are currently being reviewed internally,” Mir said.
He added that the PCB was handling the matter under its standard procedures and regulations and would give all individuals concerned due consideration.
The spokesperson also dismissed speculation and unverified claims circulating on some platforms, particularly reports originating from what he described as hostile external sources.
“At this stage, any speculative reports or unverified claims circulating on certain platforms … should not be regarded as credible,” Mir said.
The PCB will not comment further while the process is underway, he added, urging stakeholders and the public to rely on official communications from the board.
The latest inquiry adds to a turbulent period for the Pakistan team, with disciplinary issues already forcing the PCB to take action during the West Indies series.
Mohammad Rizwan was reportedly not among the players fined, although the PCB has yet to officially disclose details of any disciplinary penalties.
The inquiry is ongoing, and any further action will depend on the findings of the PCB’s internal process.
