How Razaullah’s Dramatic Selection for Pakistan’s England Tour Unfolded

The remarkable story has emerged behind the selection of young Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cricketer Razaullah for Pakistan’s important England tour, with reports revealing that the emerging player did not even have a passport when the national selectors picked him for the squad.

The senior sports journalist Ijaz Wasim Bakhri shared the unusual details during a television programme, explaining how Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials faced an unexpected challenge when they attempted to contact the young cricketer following his selection.

The PCB selection committee selected Razaullah for the England tour, but officials were unable to reach him because his mobile phone was continuously switched off.

In this regard, Razaullah comes from a remote and mountainous area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where communication and access to major cities can be challenging. With the England tour approaching, PCB officials quickly looked for an alternative way to contact the young player.

The PCB eventually contacted Razaullah’s local coach after failing to reach the cricketer directly.

Bakhri said the coach immediately set out on his motorcycle and travelled through difficult mountainous routes to reach Razaullah’s home. After arriving, the coach reportedly discovered that the young cricketer was asleep.

He woke Razaullah and informed him about the unexpected opportunity to join the national squad for the England tour.

The situation became even more challenging when it emerged that Razaullah did not have a passport.

The young cricketer was reportedly instructed to travel to Lahore without delay so that an emergency passport application could be submitted. The process also required completing biometric formalities at the British embassy and initiating the visa procedure.

The dramatic sequence mentions the challenges that can arise when talented players from remote areas receive an unexpected national call-up.

A Remarkable Journey to the National Squad

Razaullah’s reported selection story has attracted attention because it illustrates how opportunities for emerging cricketers can arrive without warning.

From being difficult to contact in a remote mountainous region to being rushed towards Lahore for urgent travel documentation, the young player’s journey to the national squad appears to have unfolded within a remarkably short period.

The account also underlines the importance of local coaches and grassroots cricket networks in identifying and connecting promising players with national-level opportunities.
