SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A six-year-old boy was killed and two other children, including his nine-year-old sister, were seriously injured in a suspected quadcopter attack in South Waziristan, local sources said.
The incident took place in Azam Warsak in the Barmal tehsil, where the children were reportedly targeted in a residential area. According to the sources, the three children were siblings.
Following the attack, the injured children were taken to a District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital for initial treatment. They were later referred to Dera Ismail Khan for further medical care.
Local residents expressed anger and grief over the incident, particularly over attacks affecting civilians, women and children in South Waziristan and surrounding areas.
Authorities have attributed the attack to militants affiliated with the group referred to by Pakistani authorities as Fitna al-Khawarij. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident and responsibility for the attack could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, officials and local residents have condemned attacks on civilians, saying that targeting women and children is unacceptable and poses a serious threat to public safety.
The incident comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant violence has remained a major challenge. In addition, Pakistani authorities have repeatedly accused militant groups of using social media to circulate what they describe as misleading information following attacks and to undermine public confidence in state institutions.
Officials said such violence, followed by alleged disinformation campaigns, further threatens stability in the region. Further details about the attack and any subsequent security operation were not immediately available.
