RAWALPINDI : In a heart-wrenching tragedy, a mother and her two children drowned in a local dam in the village of Tarkhi, located in Kallar Syedan tehsil of Rawalpindi district, sending waves of grief across the area.
According to local residents and rescue officials, the incident occurred when 8-year-old Subhul Hassan was feeding animals near the dam’s edge. His feet suddenly slipped, and he fell into the deep water. Witnessing the child’s desperate struggle, his 46-year-old mother, Benish, and his 9-year-old sister, Urooj, immediately jumped into the dam in a bid to save him.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene after receiving alerts. Officials confirmed that the mother and daughter were initially pulled out alive and shifted to a nearby hospital. However, both succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The body of young Subhul Hassan was later recovered from the dam by rescue divers.
The tragic loss of three members of the same family has plunged the village of Tarkhi into deep mourning, with neighbors and relatives gathering to offer condolences. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution near water bodies, especially during the rainy season.
